THE BALANCING ACT

Kawita Vatanajyankur

Sydney Opera House | Antidote: A Festival of Ideas, Art & Action

September 1 – 2, 2018

Plunging viewers into a dreamlike world of candy-bright hues and mind-bending physical contortion, Kawita Vatanajyankur’s video work explores the value and understanding of manual domestic labour. The artist draws from her experience growing up in Thailand, where domestic labour is largely performed by women, unaided by modern technology and therefore more physically demanding and time-consuming. The vivid colours, dark humour and undercurrents of violence of these scenes, create a spectacle of everyday tasks, highlighting the strength of the women who enact them all over the world, every day.

Antidote Projects proudly presents Vatanajyankur’s acclaimed video work at the Sydney Opera House as part the 2018 Antidote Festival.
